Third party suppliers in the US made various versions of the Spectrum ROM, mostly on dock port cartridges, that could be used to run Spectrum programs on the TS2068. To use the TMX Emulator with the TS2068 you had to find one (they were not sold in the US) and then enlarge the dock port opening slightly by cutting away some of the plastic case so the cartridge would fit into the port (the TS2068 cartridges were much thinner, so the opening was not as tall). A version planned for the TS computer by Timex, but never produced, was to be called the Chameleon. This was standard equipment and came with the TC2068 computer when purchased.

A zip file of the FDD-3000 schematic is available (in PCX format). Like the FDD, up to 4 disc drives could be attached and operated by the FDD-3000. The 2 RS-232 ports were continued and a monitor jack (RCA) was provided for connecting to the Timex Terminal 3000, made specifically for the FDD-3000 Disk System. As with the FDD, the FDD-3000 disc drives (2) were 3". To run CP/M required booting the computer into terminal mode with supplied software. Like the FDD, the FDD-3000 came with TOS but was also CP/M 2.2 capable because of the larger internal RAM. The system could be boosted yet another 32K, to 144K RAM, with the use of a 32K RAM Extension Cartridge that operated from the dock port. Now the complete system had 112K RAM and 28K ROM. The FDD-3000 system also has its own Z80 cpu but, unlike the FDD, came with 64K RAM. The " super twister" was interesting in that the FDD interface conntector was at 90 degrees to the TS2068 edge connector and the feed-through connector was on the same plane as the edge connector, so TS2068 compatible peripherals were connected straight back from the computer and the FDD interface was straight up behind the computer and "wiggled and waggled" as you used the computer. The FDD-3000 "twister" also had a feed-through port for attaching other peripherals to the TS2068 and was known as the "super twister". and, like the FDD, included a "twister board" to align the TS2068 buss with the ZX Spectrum buss. This was also imported to the USA by Zebra Systems, Inc. All the features of the FDD, and more, are contained in one case. The FDD-3000 disc drive system is an all-in-one-unit system and all were manufactured with black cases. Higher density discs with a capacity of 640K (320K each side) were available for a short time. Each disc had a formatted capacity of 320K (160K on each side). Also, the power supply has a tendency to overheat due to lack of proper ventilation. Up to 4 disc drives could be attached and operated, but a new power supply was needed for the last 2 drives because only 2 drives were accommodated with each psu. Additional disc drives could be purchased separately.

The FDD came standard with one 3" disc drive and had 2 RS-232 ports to interface serial peripherals (modems, printers, etc.). TOS was loaded into the RAM of the Controller at system boot up. Timex Operating System ( TOS) increased the available commands in order to operate the drives. The complete system, with the FDD attached to the computer, now had 64K RAM and 28K ROM. Essentially, the FDD was a stand-alone computer and did not use the resources of the 2048, 2068 (or Spectrum) computers. The FDD system came with its own Z80 cpu, 4K ROM and 16K RAM.

Black FDD systems that matched the color of the TC2048 computer (and a black variation of the TC2068) were manufactured and sold in some parts of Europe. The imported systems were the same silver color as the TS2068. The imported systems were supplied with a " twister" board to align the TS2068 buss with the FDD Interface, which was Spectrum compatible.

The FDD came as separate modules: Power Supply, Controller and Disc Drive, and a special Interface, along with the software and manuals required to operate the system. Each company provided their own name for the system, so there were "Zebra" and "EMC" disk systems available. of New York and English Micro Connection of Rhode Island in a joint effort. The FDD was imported to America from Portugal by Zebra Systems, Inc.
